NEW ALBUMS

BOOTS ELECTRIC – EAGLES OF DEATH METAL PRESENTS BOOTS ELECTRIC PERFORMING THE BEST SONGS WE NEVER WROTE

This isn’t too complicated, but try to keep up. Jesse Hughes of Eagles of Death Metal has released a full LP of covers, as Boots Electric called Eagles Of Death Metal Presents Boots Electric Performing The Best Songs We Never Wrote. Alright, looking back, it wasn’t that hard to follow along.

Jesse (or Boots) covered classics from KISS, Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC, Steve Miller Band, George Michael, Cat Stevens, David Bowie and more. A lot of these songs were previously released on last year’s The Eagles of Death Metal Presents Pigeons of Shit Metal; the profane moniker was how Axl Rose referred to them after EoDM opened a show for GNR back in 2006.

Here’s their take on KISS’ “God of Thunder”.

CAVE IN – FINAL TRANSMISSION

Final Transmission is Cave In‘s sixth studio album the final album to feature bassist Caleb Scofield who passed away in March 2018.

Scofield plays on every track of Final Transmission, which is presented in polished demo form with very little musical additions.

Half the proceeds from Final Transmission will be given to Caleb’s wife and children.

DINOSAUR PILE-UP – CELEBRITY MANSIONS

It’s already been 3½ years since since Dinosaur Pile-Up released Eleven Eleven and its hit single, “11:11”.

Today, they’ve released Celebrity Mansions, which is their 4th album since 2010.

PERRY FARRELL – KIND HEAVEN

If you’re a fan of Janes’s Addiction and Porno For Pyros, you’re in luck. Perry Farrell has just released Kind Heaven; his second solo LP in his 38 year career.

PELICAN – NIGHTTIME STORIES

We’re really not trying to bum you out, but a few of the albums in this list seem to revolve around death.

In the 6 years since Pelican last released an album, they’ve dealt with the deaths of family members and a band member, but they’ve also added children to their families.

Despite being an instrumental post-metal group, they are able to convey their emotions without any words at all on Nighttime Stories, and they do it well,

SILVERSUN PICKUPS – WIDOW’S NEEDS

For their fifth album, the L.A.-based Silversun Pickups enlisted Butch Vig as producer (Nirvana‘s Nevermind, Smashing PumpkinsSiamese Dream, Soul Asylum‘s Let Your Dim Light Shine, Foo FightersWasting Light and Sonic Highways).

Halfway through recording sessions, Vig went off to tour with Garbage. During that time, a band member’s father passed away, and another member sought treatment for alcoholism.

The record does have a mourning vibe, but it’s not sad. It’s change. It’s growing up and moving on and letting go of things. And it’s okay to be sad about those things and mourn them. It’s actually healthy to do so and take the time to do it. At the end of the day, it’s going to be much better and much more fulfilling when you get through it.

NEW SINGLES

BEARTOOTH – “AFTERALL”

The fifth single from Beartooth‘s 2018 LP, Disease, is called “Afterall”. Earlier this week, they dropped the official music video.

BUCKCHERRY – “RIGHT NOW”

“Right Now” is the fourth single from Buckcherry‘s Warpaint album; an album which features a cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Head Like a Hole”.

Oh, hey! Speaking of “Head Like a Hole”, make sure you check out the Miscellaneous portion at the very bottom of this post.

LIAM GALLAGHER – “SHOCKWAVE”

At a show in London this week, Liam Gallagher, the once & future lead singer of Oasis, did a show which featured Oasis classics, songs from his 2017 solo album, and songs by Beady Eye (Oasis sans brother, Noel).

And without any introduction, he launched into his brand new song, “Shockwave”, which is rumored to appear on his upcoming solo album, Why Me? Why Not?

THE GLORIOUS SONS – “PANIC ATTACK”

The Glorious Sons are currently in the studio recording the follow up to 2017’s Young Beauties and Fools. Earlier this week, they dropped the new single (and video) “Panic Attack”.

PIXIES – “ON GRAVEYARD HILL”

Pixies announced this week that their seventh album, Beneath the Eyrie, will arrive on September 13.

Along with the announcement, they released the brand new single “On Graveyard Hill”.

MISCELLANEOUS

MILEY CYRUS – “HEAD LIKE A HOLE”

Where else to place this one, except under “miscellaneous”?

Black Mirror has returned to Netflix for Season 5, and more than anything else about it, the thing making headlines is that Miley Cyrus covers a few Nine Inch Nails songs in it.

Here’s her (or her character’s) take on “Head Like a Hole”.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS – “BIG EMPTY (ACOUSTIC)”

Late last week, LĪVE announced the 25th anniversary reissue of Throwing Copper. Now it’s STP’s turn to make a similar announcement.

Stone Temple Pilots have announced Purple: Super Deluxe Edition for the album’s 25th anniversary. (All of the meaty details can be found HERE).

With the announcement came this previously unreleased, acoustic version of “Big Empty”.
