Morrissey Gets Staples Center to Go Vegetarian for Upcoming Concert
10:37AM Monday
February 25, 2013

Fans who attend Morrissey’s upcoming show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles will find that their food choices will be limited.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, reps for the ex-Smiths frontman revealed that all the food vendors in the venue will be prohibited from selling meat during the singer’s concert on March 1. The Staples Center has also agreed to close down its McDonald’s outlet for the performance, at Morrissey’s request.

The upcoming concert will be the first time that the arena will go completely vegetarian, having previously denied a similar request made by fellow vegetarian rocker Paul McCartney.  In addition, the Staples Center and its promoter, Goldenvoice, will donate a portion of the ticket proceeds to the animal rights organization, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Morrissey is currently on a touring break so he can receive treatment for a bleeding ulcer and Barrett’s esophagus, a complication of chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease which causes heartburn. The singer’s next scheduled performance will be on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! on February 26.
