Chris Cornell/QOTSA Collaborator Covers Cornell’s Can’t Change Me

Chilean-American musician, Alain Johannes may not be a household name, but he’s produced and played on a lot of music you’ve heard.

He’s been a long time collaborator of Josh Homme‘s, producing and/or contributing to several Queens of the Stone Age albums, the Them Crooked Vultures album, Hommes’ Desert Sessions Volume 7 & 8 and Volume 9 & 10.

In 1999, Johannnes and his wife, Natasha Shneider (both of Los Angeles alt-rockers Eleven) co-produced Chris Cornell‘s debut solo album, Euphoria Morning, and served as his backing band.

In May 2020, two weeks after the anniversary of Cornell’s death, Johannes’ The Alain Johannes Trio (with guests Cristobal Aedo and Ignacio Ibarra) recorded a quarantine cover of Euphoria Morning‘s “Can’t Change Me”.

The original song was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance at the 2000 Grammy Awards. Lenny Kravitz’s “American Woman” took home the award.
