The White Stripes were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday night in Los Angeles following their second nomination.
We knew that Meg White wasn’t going to attend, and there was doubt over whether her ex-husband Jack White would, but in the end he did.
Inducted by fellow Michigan Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member Iggy Pop, Jack acknowledged that he spoke to Meg in the days leading up to the ceremony, and he said she helped write his speech. “She said she’s very sorry she couldn’t make it tonight, but she’s very grateful for the folks who have supported her throughout all the years, it really means a lot to her tonight… To the young artists, I want to say, get your hands dirty and drop the screens and get out in your garage or your little room and get obsessed. Get obsessed with something, get passionate. We all want to share in what you might create.”
Providing the musical tribute to The White Stripes were Olivia Rodrigo and Feist for an acoustic version of “We’re Going to Be Friends,” followed by Twenty One Pilots on “Seven Nation Army.”
