Callum Thompson has introduced a new solo project called AKA, marking a shift from his work as guitarist in The Mysterines. The announcement arrives alongside the release of a debut single, It Grows On Trees (Money), a track built on raw guitar tones and a direct, punchy rhythm.
The song was written and produced by Thompson, who uses the project to explore a looser, more experimental sound. Early details around the release point to a focus on stripped-back production and a sharper edge compared to his band work. The single is accompanied by a music video that mirrors the track’s rough, unfiltered style.
Industry updates confirm that Thompson has signed the project to Fiction Records, signaling a formal step into this new phase. Live appearances are already planned, with performances scheduled at The Great Escape and Midi Festival.
The launch of AKA positions Thompson in a different creative space, giving him room to test ideas outside the structure of a full band while continuing to build on his presence in the alternative music scene.
