Minnesota United pulled off a thrilling comeback win over Liga MX side Toluca in the Leagues Cup Round of 16 on Tuesday night, advancing to the quarterfinals on penalties after the match was tied 2-2 after extra time.

The Loons took a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals from Joseph Rosales and Bongokuhle Hlongwane, but they were reduced to 10 men in the 70th minute when Hassani Dotson received his second yellow card of the game. Toluca took advantage of the extra man and scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation, including a penalty kick, to force extra time.

The two teams traded chances in extra time, but neither could find a winner, setting up a penalty shootout. Minnesota goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair made two saves in the shootout, and Sang Bin Jeong converted the decisive penalty to give the Loons a 4-2 victory.

Minnesota will now face Nashville SC in the quarterfinals of the Leagues Cup on Friday night. The match will be played at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
